If you are still unable to access this new feature, it is because you are using an old Instagram version. You are suggested to update your Instagram app or download the recent Instagram version to get access to the Instagram DM notes features.

To all the Instagram users who are looking to know how to leave a note, below are the required steps:

  • Open your updated Instagram on your android device or on your iPhone.
  • Tap on the messages option at the top right corner of your screen.
  • Between the search bar and the DMs, you will find this brand-new feature.
  • Tap on the ‘Leave note’ option appearing on the screen.
  • Write a message that you want to share with your friends.
  • You can either share this message with your followers or close friends.
  • If you opt to share the notes with your close friends, only those whom you have selected to be in your close friend circle will be able to read the message.

You can share as many notes as you want but the most recent note will replace the previous one. It means that you can only share a single note at a time.

Several users have an opinion that this feature is useless and thus are trying to turn it off. Unfortunately, there is no way to get rid of these notes as of now. However, you can mute the users whom you don’t want to see in the notes. Below are the steps to mute the Instagram notes from a particular follower:

  • Open your Instagram app and navigate to the messages tab.
  • Long tap on the note that you don’t want to see anymore.
  • After tapping on it for a long, you will receive three options, Report, Mute notes, and View profile. Tap on the second option and you will no longer see notes from that particular person.
  • If the app asks for confirmation, tap on the mute notes option again.

You cannot add any images or videos to the notes section. It only allows you to share messages having 60 characters only. Quite similar to the Instagram story option, the notes too will last 24 hours and expire after that.
