In some recent months, we have seen Twitter making some obvious changes to its design and user interface. Just recently, it has rolled a new font called “Chirp”, which is all set to replace the old font “Segoe UI”. This new font will have a slightly messier and rounded look than the previous one.

This newly rolled font is part of a broader refresh of the company’s brand that was initially revealed in January this year. While talking about this new font, the company wrote in a blog post. “Chirp strikes the balance between messy and sharp to amplify the fun and irreverence of a Tweet. But can also carry the weight of seriousness when needed”.

Twitter had already started using this font for promotional purposes at the start of this year. But it wasn’t rolled for the users back then. Twitter’s creative director Derrit DeRouen wrote in a Twitter thread. “Do we eventually see Chirp as the typeface for the product?” He further added It’s my personal desire, and the work on legibility, density, and weight has already begun. There is more refining to do, more languages to build, but the hard work will be worth the benefit of having a holistic brand.”

What Was Twitter’s Font Before

It might take time for the users to feel and differentiate the new font but Chirp comes with a fun Easter egg that wasn’t available for the users before. One trick that you can try is, write [CHIRPBIRDICON] into the compose Tweet compose box and you will come up with the Twitter logo. To apply this trick successfully, don’t forget to write all alphabets in capital form, else it won’t work. It will instantly appear if you are an iOS user but on the web, it will appear once the Tweet has been sent.

Although the font is the most apparent change made by Twitter, it isn’t the only aspect of design that has changed recently. While talking about another change in a Twitter thread, the company wrote. “We’ve updated our colors to be high contrast and a lot less blue. A change made to draw attention to the photos and videos you create and share”.

Twitter has also announced that they will be rolling out a new color scheme but the exact time isn’t specified yet. The upcoming color scheme isn’t also revealed yet.

If you are an avid user of Twitter, then you might have noticed another change made recently on the Follow button. When you follow someone, the button’s background used to be filled in but it has been reversed now.
