YouTuber IShowSpeed is reportedly being investigated for streaming in New Zealand without having a proper work visa. However, his cameraman has denied any violation of visa rules. His adventures have gained attention online, including viral moments like stepping into a cage with UFC fighter Dan Hooker and winning a $10k race against an Australian Football player. According to 1News, Immigration New Zealand’s general manager for risk and border, Richard Owen, confirmed that IShowSpeed entered the country on a visitor visa. The issue arises because earning money through live streaming could violate the rules of this visa. Visitor visas do not permit any form of work, and monetized streams fall under that category. If it is found that Speed is making money through his content while in New Zealand, he might face serious consequences.

Richard Owen stated that Immigration New Zealand would handle the matter using their usual compliance procedures. An immigration adviser, Ankur Sabharwal, added that Speed would need to apply for a work visa if he wants to return and stream in the country legally. Sabharwal explained that the authorities now have to decide how to deal with the situation.

If they determine that Speed has violated his visa conditions by working, they could issue him a deportation liability notice. This notice could potentially lead to him being removed from the country. The situation highlights the importance of understanding and following visa rules while engaging in activities that might be considered work.

However, on X, IShowSpeed’s cameraman, Slipz, stated that there was no violation of the visitor visa rules because Speed did not receive any payments from a company based in New Zealand. “Yea lol he’s fine he hasn’t stepped outside of the bounds of his visa compliance, and has not been paid by a NZ entity or company.”
