  • Onions
  • Butter
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Milk
  • Rigatoni (or any pasta you like)
  • Sherry
  • White wine
  • Worcester sauce
  • Fresh thyme
  • Salt and pepper

Here is the procedure to make the French onion pasta recipe:

  • Take a larger pot and melt the butter. You can also use a dutch oven to melt butter over medium heat.  Slice the onion and add to the dutch oven. Season with a generous pinch of salt. Stir for a few minutes then cover and cook for 5 minutes.
  • After 5 minutes remove the lid, turn the heat to medium-low, and cook for about 20 minutes until the onions are very caramelized.
  • Pour in sherry and wine. Deglaze by scraping up the brown bits at the bottom of the pan. Add sprigs of fresh thyme and season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Add uncooked rigatoni then pour in beef broth and Worcestershire Sauce. Bring to a boil and cook for about 15 minutes or until pasta is al dente.
  • Turn off the heat. Discard thyme sprigs. Stir in freshly grated parmesan cheese and a half and half until well combined.
  • Serve immediately. Serve with additional parmesan cheese.
