The social media platforms are filled with heaps of sensitive content despite the app developers’ strict measures. Whilst some users find the sexual or violent content quite normal, others find it extremely distressing. Considering these concerns of users, Instagram has now come up with a new feature that enables you to control the content according to your preferences.
The users have found this feature quite helpful and they have shown pleasure towards it. Some users have even suggested other social platforms to adopt such features.
If you are tired of witnessing distressing content over the photo-sharing app, you must enable this feature on your app. Let’s find out how this feature works!
Instagram’s New Feature Of Controlling Sensitive Content
The social media giant, Instagram, has rolled a brand new feature that helps users control sensitive content according to their priority. Instagram has announced on July 20th that they are changing the control users have over sensitive content.
Using this new feature, every user from the photo-sharing app can decide how much sensitive content they want to see on their explore tab. This new feature will enable the users to experience Instagram as they always wanted it to be.
While talking about this new feature in a blog post, Instagram said “This new feature gives you control over sensitive content. You can decide to leave things as they are or you can adjust the Sensitive Content Control to see more or less of some types of sensitive content.”
“We recognize that everybody has different preferences for what they want to see in Explore, and this control will give people more choice over what they see,” they added.
How To Use Sensitive Content Control Feature On Instagram
If you haven’t enabled this significant feature yet, here is how to use it:
Make sure that you have updated the Instagram app to its newest version. If you are using any old version, update it now so that you can access all new features. Once you have updated the app, follow the below steps:
- Launch the Instagram app and go to your profile.
- Tap on the setting bar located at the top right-hand corner of your screen.
- Tap on the option that reads “Account”.
- Here, you will get the option “‘Sensitive Content Control’.
As you get this feature, it’s time to decide whether you want to keep the settings as default, limit the posts or see more by sliding across the bar. You can also choose from more or less certain types of sensitive content.
You can change these settings anytime unless you are above 18. This feature isn’t currently available for people below 18 years of age.
It is also important to note that Instagram still follows its community guidelines. Although you can control sensitive content, Instagram will also remove posts that are against the community guidelines.
While talking about this new feature Instagram further stated, “Our Community Guidelines outline what kind of content can be on Instagram, and the point of these guidelines is to keep people safe. We don’t allow hate speech, bullying or other content that might present a risk of harm to people”.
“You can think of sensitive content as posts that don’t necessarily break our rules, but could potentially be upsetting to some people – such as posts that may be sexually suggestive or violent” they added.
