What Is Half Swipe On Snapchat?

The half swipe in Snapchat is kind of an unintended function. It allows you to slide briefly into the chat window to get a preview of its contents without marking the message as read. This gives you a chance to know how soon you should reply, or if you should even reply at all.

It’s still possible to half swipe into a conversation after the latest Snapchat update. The key is to start the swipe from the user’s bitmoji icon on the far left of the screen. If you try to swipe from anywhere else, you’ll wind up in the Snap Map window.

To do this simply, place your finger on the left side of the screen, next the bitmoji if the person chats you want to ‘half swipe’. Slide and drag your finger to the right side of the screen. But, don’t let go of the screen, don’t slide all the way, only as far as you need to, to be able to see their message. Once you can see their message, whilst still holding the screen, simply slide the chat back to the left side. Then let go.

You can still use the old method to enter conversations with this little trick. Start your swipe by first pressing on the user’s bitmoji in the chat view. Instead of sliding into the map, you’ll start to open the conversation. Half swipe if you want to preview the message, or do a full swipe to open the conversation and mark it as read.

Can Someone See If You Half Swipe On Snapchat?

Half opened messages is one way of reading a message without the other person knowing. Don’t worry because this is not a Snapchat feature and when you decide to half-open a message, the other person won’t be notified. Many fans have taken to twitter to express their frustration over the half swipe feature being removed from the app due to the update, but this is not the case.

You can still half swipe on Snapchat, you just have to use a slightly different method. To start your swipe, press down on the user’s Bitmoji in the chat view. Then, half swipe to view the message while holding down on their Bitmoji, but don’t open the full way unless you want to mark the conversation as read.

Plenty of fans seemed annoyed about the fact you can no longer “half swipe” on the new update. Meaning you can’t have a peek at your snaps before opening them. This feature was popular as it meant users were able to read their messages without the other person seeing that they had opened the message, giving users more time to reply.

While someone can’t get rid of the update, you can prevent this from happening next time. And with your other favorite apps, by turning off auto update.

Conclusion

It may seem like the new Snapchat update removed the half swipe function, but it’s still there. You just need to touch down over the user’s bitmoji icon first. It’s a frustrating change to be sure, but with a little practice you’ll be adjusted to the method in no time.
